We just can’t seem to recognize a fellow human when we see one.
Racism, sexism, cultural prejudices, are all a result of the basic species-wide failing. We easily recognize differences between us but we are totally unable to recognize our commonality.
We seem to instinctively recognize differences. This is the number one cause of war, injustice, and suffering. Recognition of a fellow member of the human species, I am lead to conclude, needs to be learned behavior. Does each individual member of our species need to be taught to recognize other humans when seen?
This learning must come from basic acculturation and socialization. Some traditions need to die. When all humans accept all humans, then and only then will the discussion of equality be concluded.
