Freedom From Religion Is the Reason for the First Amendment.
Throughout the history of the world religion has been used to oppress, persecute, control, and enslave.
In America, young women have been burned alive in the town square by bible carrying “Christians” because of the belief that the “Christian Religion” demanded it.
Texas Governor Rick Perry would have us believe that the state has the right to do this – “Freedom of religion doesn’t mean freedom from religion.”
Article [I]
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Every person in America has the right to their own beliefs without interference from anyone. This freedom creates diversity. The only restriction is established by the concept that EVERYONE has that right. No one has the right to dictate to another what their beliefs have to be. There is only one limit on practice.
That limit being practices that prohibit the “free exercise” of others with different beliefs. Many people came to this continent beginning in the 15th century and continue to come to America today because of this freedom FROM religion.
Any practice, especially the passing of laws, that interferes with the private practice of religion is Anti-First Amendment. Public schools must be for everyone in America. Public schools therefore must not be associated with any religion.
