Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and now Syria. Are we learning yet?

Communists armed North Korea, we armed South Korea. Communists armed and manned North Vietnam, we armed and manned South Vietnam. Communists invaded Afghanistan, we armed the Taliban.  How did those actions work out?

Now Russia is arming the Syrian government, does America arm the rebels? Only if we have learned nothing from the mistakes of the past.
