Affordable Care Act sign up is a success in 14 States and DC. Why?

Originally the Affordable Care Act called for each state to be given money to set up a health care exchange. The Democrat backed bill compromised with the Republican opposition and thus created the mess. States were given a choice to set up their own exchange or rely on the Federal Government to do it for them.

Today’s example of the general principle that if Republicans are falsely accusing Democrats for something it is draw attention from the fact that Republicans are doing that very thing.

No state with republican controlled legislature, 28 states, has an exchange. All states with an exchange have Democrat controlled legislature and a Democrat for Governor except Nevada. Nevada has a Democrat controlled legislature and a Republican Governor. New Mexico has a Democrat controlled legislature and a Republican Governor and half an exchange serving business only, the exchange does not serve individuals or families.

ACA signup has run into obstacles in states that continue to protect obscene insurance industry profits over the lives and suffering of their residents. People continue to suffer and die from treatable illness with every day of delay. Here is an alphabetical list of states that are blocking implementation of universal health care.

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho*, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico**, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah,  Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming,

If your having trouble getting insurance on the new federal heath care exchange you have a choice. Call your state governor’s office and find out why your state government continues to deny you access to health care or wait until the federal web site is fixed.

* Idaho has a domain name but not a site. This creates a glitch in the federal site. Heathcare.gov refers people to a site that refers residents to insurance agents. Today, Idaho residents have no way to shop for health care.  http://www.yourhealthidaho.org/

** New Mexico’s site works only for small business, not individuals. Healthcare.gov is the site New Mexico residents must use. (Thanks Republican Governor Susana Martinez)
