In a blatant attempt to preach her religion from the bench, Tennessee Judge Lu Ann Ballew now faces discipline. Judge Ballew claimed the right to name the child Martin. This is NOT Iran. This is America. Government has no right to change the child’s name due to the religion of the judge.
Basic principle: The child’s name is Messiah because MOM SAID SO. No Judge has any right to argue.
Messiah would not have been my first choice, but it was for over 1100 other American parents in the past 2 years. Telling these parents that they do not have the right to name their baby would be a intrusion of the government’s religion into private faiths.
The very concept of the “governments religion” is a insult to the US Constitution and freedom from religion that it stands for.
The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
poor kid…
Agreed. It would not have been my first choice of names, but that does not make it my decision.
Well-stated.
